We are Maine women. We are grandmothers and mothers. We are wives and sisters. We are negative and positive. We have been tested for HIV. We are stronger because we know. We are real women with the power to control our futures. We know HIV does not discriminate — regardless of age, race, or sexual orientation — women get infected.
About 40% of people with HIV in Maine are diagnosed in the late stages of their disease. Often people with HIV infection visit health care settings years before receiving a diagnosis, but are not tested for HIV. In the last two years, the number of women testing late has increased.
This Website has been developed to provide you with more information about HIV, the importance of HIV testing for women, and to provide the resources you need to take control of your own future. Ask for the test. Be stronger.
